Know your terms: There are many drink variations.

"DRY" Uses little vermouth
"EXTRA DRY" Uses less than a little vermouth. Some would say none at all.
"DIRTY" Adds a splash of olive juice.

Also some "Manhattan" terms: The standard is whiskey unless you specify otherwise.
"SWEET" Uses alittle more vermouth.
"PERFECT" Uses both sweet and dry vermouth.

There are also a few "Martini" terms you should know about: Please note that it is automatically assumed you are requesting gin unless you specify a "Vodka Martini".The Martini has taken on a whole new meaning recently, see our Martini page.

Now that you’re familiar with some terms, it’s time to put them to use. Here is a list of helpful hints that will make your bar visit more enjoyable and might increase you’re chances of picking up that hottie bartender / cocktail waitress.

  • Have your order ready. This includes every one your ordering for.
  • Have your money ready. Be prepared to pay, be it cash or credit.
  • Be patient, Act civilized, Mind your manners.
  • Wait your turn just like at the water slide.
  • Understand "LAST CALL" means last call for you too.
  • Speak clearly, no need to shout.
