Be Prepared

Before you go out, here are a few tips you should keep in mind. Dress accordingly, depending on where you’re going. Some places will not allow ripped jeans, baseball hats, sneakers, etc. Also, keep in mind, if you’re going out to see "screaming Fags from London" at the local dive bar, don’t wear your $600.00 Armani suit.

The Boy Scouts were right on when they said "Be Prepared"

  1. Legal Photo Identification (Drivers license, Passport, Etc.) Don’t bring the party down by being the only one who can’t get in. It doesn’t matter how old you are; it matters how old you can PROVE you are.
Your entrance is at the discretion of the doorman. ID - It’s not just a good idea, it’s the law!
  2. Funds (Cash is KING). Your local dive may not take credit cards or be near an ATM that actually works at 1:00 am. When determining the amount of dollars, consider cover charges, drink and tip money, smokes, cab ride home, strippers, late night diner/hotdog cart, adult bookstores, parking/towing fees, panhandlers, and/or your lame, cashless friends who you will never go out with again.
  3. Keys –DUH!
Full Belly- A nutritious dinner goes a long way.
  4. Accessories- What do YOU need? Purse, cell phone (even though you’re not that important), condoms, paraphernalia, hairbrush, gum/mints, panties, tampons, smokes, pager, wallet, toothbrush, handcuffs.
  5. State of mind - Check your emotional baggage at the door…. of your house….on your way out. And make sure it stays there even as the night goes on.

Now that you’re reasonably prepared, lets consider our transportation options. If you plan on drinking this evening, it’s not a good idea to drive. Appointing a designated driver, walking, public transportation, a ride from mom, or taking a taxi are all sound ideas. If your buddy gets lucky before you do, don’t be afraid to change your plans. Cab fare is considerably less costly than the repercussions resulting from a run-in with the local authorities, not to mention wrecking your car or worse.

As you approach the bar, know your bar etiquette.
